I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and ready for the end of the school year. Our lower elementary students have been exploring in the garden with Cosmo and his friends. We did a project on fruits and vegetable as our end-of-school year test. Upper elementary and middle school have been learning about comparative and superlative. They are going to have a final test on this coming Wednesday.

As the April shower goes on into May, our students have been learning about insects/bugs. We joined Cosmo and his friends in the garden, planting seeds and playing with snails and worms.
History of Chinese currency were introduced to our older students. We read about in ancient times, Chinese used sea shells and silk to exchange goods, the history of private banking system, and that how current Chinese paper money (RMB) were designed.
The past few weeks our elementary students have been learning about spring-related topic, such as how it's rainy and different animals. Play charades with them, act out the animals and ask them to say the animal's name in Chinese!
Our middle school has been learning landmarks and tourists attractions in both China and the U.S. We took a virtual tour to some of the most visited cities in China, such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Xi'an.
Before the break, PreK through 4th grade started the spring curriculum, 5th through 8th grade were learning about Chinese traditional music and they had a chance to create their own Beijing Opera mask.
During the last week of February, our students had their second trimester exam. I'm very happy to see everyone's growth. Our 8th graders did exceptionally well!
The past week, 5th through 8th grades have been learning about Chinese traditional musical instruments and the national treasure, Beijing Opera. Origin, history and stage performance were introduced. The past two weeks, our preschool through fourth grade have been learning about prepositions and emotions. Fifth grade through eighth grade have been learning about Chinese food as well as American food. They were also introduced to a very famous poem written around 799AD. Two students recited it beautifully, one student gave a brilliant English version of this poem. Check out the video and enjoy their chanting. Don't forget to turn on the subtitles.
Next week we will have the second trimester test. Our 5th through 8th grade have received a study guide. It will be helpful if they take advantage of it over this week.
The past two weeks our students have been learning about the Chinese New Year. This biggest holiday in China fell on January 28th this year, and the celebration usually lasts seven to fifteen days. Our students learned about the festival food and traditions. Some traditions include dragon dance, and giving out red envelops with lucky money in.
